BJP protests in Par premises over farmers' issue
New Delhi, Feb 29: Minutes before the presentation of the general budget, several BJP MPs from Maharashtra today held a demonstration in the Parliament premises, slamming the UPA government over farmers' suicides.
They were demanding immediate steps to end the plight of farmers of the Vidarbha region in their state. Shouting slogans against the UPA government, the MPS, including Hansraj Ahir from Chandrapur and Haribahu Jawlae from Jalgaon, held a poster depicting a suicide by a farmer, with the slogan ''Shame on You UPA Government''written alongside it. They asked for waiver of all loans of the farmers, and immediate financial assitance to them to cover the loss of their crops.
The MPs said the UPA government had turned completely apathetic to the suicides of farmers and such a government had no right to exist.
Farmers' issue continue to dominate the budget session. Earlier on the opening day, the UNPA also held a demonstration in the Parliament premises. Later, in the day they also held a rally on the issue, with the Left leaders joining in.
