Rs 27 lakh for free education scheme for SCs approved
Chandigarh, Feb 28 (UNI) The Chandigarh Administration has approved Rs 27 lakh for free education for meritorious scheduled castes and other backward classes students scheme.
UT Home Secretary Kirshna Mohan said that the Social Welfare Department had introduced this scheme which would enable the students of Scheduled Castes and other Backward Classes residing in Chandigarh to pursue higher studies and for better academic performance in the professional courses.
Professional courses include MBBS, BDS, BVSc, BAMS, DHMS, B.E., B/Architecture, Bachelor of Fine Arts, B.Pharmacy, BSc Nursing, Degree / Diploma in Hotel Management, Degree/ Diploma in Laboratory Technology, B.Ed, Med, LLB, MBA, MCA and any other course decided by the Committee, he said.
The Home Secretary said that SC/OBC students who have passed +2 or qualifying examination from any school/college of Chandigarh in first attempt with a minimum of 50% marks and the annual income of their parents up to Rs 2,50,000 are eligible under the scheme.
Mr Mohan disclosed that 53 applicants have already been benefited from the scheme.
