Price of death postcard still 50 p: Min
New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) Inflation is yet to catch up with the solemn death message which is still priced at 50 paise.
A handwritten message announcing death, known as 'death message', costs only Re 0.50 when written on a post card, Dr Shakeel Ahmed, Minister of state for Communications and Information Technology, told the Upper House today.
Replying to a question from Mrs Sushma Swaraj (BJP), the Minister said middle and lower income groups generally send out handwritten postcards announcing their bereavement at this price which was "the absolute minimum".
Only rich and well-to-do are known to use printed post cards priced at Rs six as they could afford to pay the price which is close to cost of operation, Dr Ahmed said.
