Nickel February 08 contract up by 4.92 pc at Rs 1,205 per kg

Mumbai, Feb 28 (UNI) Nickel February 2008 contract firmed up by 4.92 per cent at Rs 1,205 per kg but Lead February 08 contract slid by 1.01 per cent to Rs 131.85 per kg today on Multi-Commodity Exchange of India (MCX), clocking total turnover of Rs 5,546.86 crore and 79,117 trades.

MCX Comdex (the composite index of metals, energy and ago-commodities) receded by 0.43 per cent at 2,711.55 points and MCX energy by 1.08 per cent at 2,999.73 points.

In bullion, all gold contracts weakened but silver contracts showed a mixed trend, an MCX release said.

Gold March 08 contract fell by 0.34 per cent at Rs 12,269 per 10 grams, while silver February 08 contract lost 0.45 per cent at Rs 24,238 per kg. Silver November 08 contract gained 1.09 per cent at Rs 25,096 per kg.

Metals contracts were split evenly in terms of gains and losses.

Nickel contracts gained with February 08 contract rising 4.92 per cent to Rs 1,205 per kg. In tin and zinc, all contracts made marginal gains. Both February 08 lead contract and April 08 contracts lost 1.01 per cent each at Rs 131.85 and Rs 131.85 per kg respectively.

In energy, crude oil contracts received some drubbing with crude oil August 08 contract shedding 2.34 per cent at Rs 3,832 per barrel and March 08 contract 1.45 per cent at Rs 3,949 per barrel.

Turmeric June 08 contract shed 1.07 per cent at Rs 3,337 per quintal. Jute March 08 contract receded by 1.06 per cent at Rs 1,359.50 per quintal. All mentha oil contracts fell.

Nickel February 08 contract occupied the top slot with a 4.92 per cent rise at Rs 1,205 per kg and CFI December 08 contract with a 1.73 per cent gain at Rs 1,296.50 per tonne.

Gold April 08 contract clocked a volume of 11,109 kg and nickel February 08 contract of 10,23,250 kg, the release added.
