MSEZ: Residents picket for higher compensation
Mangalore, Feb 28(UNI) Hundreds of residents affected by acquisition of their land for the proposed Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) project today picketed before the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) at Bykampady, about 15 km from here, demanding better compensation package and rehabilitation.
The residents of Kalavar, Permude-Bajpe and Thokur villages whose lands are being acquired by the KIADB for the project, alleged that the officials have asked the residents to vacate their land/houses within 15-days time without making any alternative arrangements.
The agitators warned the KIADB officials that they would not vacate their houses/land until they get suitable compensation to their acquired land/property and other rehabilitation benefits as assured during the process of acquisition.
They also demanded that temple and mosque located in Kalavar village should not demolished till the residents from that village were rehabilitated and both the temple and the mosque should be relocated in their new housing colonies.
