Man awarded life imprisonment for murdering wife

Rajkot, Feb 28 (UNI) A local court today sentenced a man to life imprisonment holding him guilty for the murder of his wife almost two years ago.

The fast track court of Judge D K Mahesuriya upheld the prosecution case that Mansukh Popat Kava had set his wife Manjula ablaze on June 25, 2006, suspecting her of infidelity.

An alcoholic, Kava often beat his wife and daughters. Following the harassment, Manjula and her two daughters had started living separately. Manjula had even lodged a complaint with the police against her husband before she was murdered, the prosecution had contended before the court.

Kava's daughters had stood witnesses in the case and had testified against their father.

The Judge while awarding the life sentence, also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 upon Kava.
