Lokbiradari photo and craft exhibition in Nashik

Nashik, Feb 28 (UNI) A photo and craft exhibition on Gadchiroli-based ''Lokbiradari Prakalp'' began today at the Sarvajanik Vachanalaya here in Nashik city.

The ''Lokbiradari'' project of the Maharogi Seva Samiti, Varora, was founded by late Baba Amte at Hemalkasa on December 23, 1973.

Late Baba Amte's son, Dr Prakash Amte and his wife, Dr Manda Amte established the first clinic for Madia Gond tribals in a hut in 1974. The clinic now has various modern facilities such as sonography, X-ray and pathology lab. Nearly 45,000 people take benefit of this facility every year. A school was also established in 1976 under the project.

The photo and craft exhibition depicts the 35-year-long journey of the project through various photographs, articles including showpieces and greetings made by the tribals. The exhibition will be open till March 3. It is an effort to make people aware of the work of Dr Amte and his many colleagues for the tribals in Hemalkasa.
