Expert calls for mutual understanding
Puducherry, Feb 28 (UNI) Former Director General of UNESCO Amadou Mahtar M'bow today called for mutual understanding and promotion of unity in diversity to usher in peace in the world.
Inaugurating a symposium on 'Auroville and idea of human unity' to mark the 40th foundation day celebrations of the international township here, he said ''The more we understand each other, the more we come to know of what is uniting all of us.'' Auroville represented sharing of mutual understanding and thus peace could be established in the world and universal fraternity could be achieved, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Sir Mark Tally, member of the international advisory council of Auroville, said India had a tradition of not causing any harm to others, and it had taught him the fact that being together was nothing but ''understanding each other''.
Member of Auroville foundation, Aster Patel, who welcomed the gathering, said the completion of Matri Mandir marked the splendour and power of unity in diversity.
A pre-dawn bonfire was lit to mark the inauguration of the foundation day celebrations.
