About three lakh loss of property in Malda fire
Malda, Feb 28 (UNI) Property worth about Rs three lakh was destroyed in a major fire that broke out at a house in the district's Bulbulchandi village under Habibpur police station this evening.
Habibpur Police Inspector Bipul Banerjee said that at about 1700 houes, a house in the locality caught fire and spread to paddy mill adjacent to it. Paddy and machinery, approximately worth about Rs two lakh, were also destroyed.
As the fire spread, a nearby shop was also engulfed. According to assessment made by the police from the shopkeeper, goods worth at least Rs one lakh had been damaged.
Two fire tenders had been pressed into action and fire brigade sources said the fire was under control.
Police informed that there has not been any injuries. Sources said that the fire might have been caused when paddy was being boiled in the mill. Mr Banerjee had added that investigation would be conducted into the matter. Police have cordoned off the area.
