16 run over by train near Surat
Surat, Feb 28 (UNI) As many as 16 people, including two women were run over by a speeding train at the Kakra khadi bridge between Surat and Udhna railway stations here last night.
Railway Police Inspector H M Patel said the accident occurred when the victims, all hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were crossing the railway bridge on foot and hit by the speeding train.
The incident occurred between 2200 hrs and 2300 hrs, he informed.
The bodies which were lying scattered around the railway track were noticed by the driver of Flying Ranee Express who reported the matter to the police.
Mr Patel said the deceased include two women and two children while details of others were being ascertained.
Senior police and Railway officials had rushed to the site.
