Reservation to EBC can be between 5 to 15 pc: EBC commission
Mumbai, Feb 27 (UNI) National commission for economically backward class (EBC) chairman S R Sinho today indicated that the reservation for the EBC people can be somewhere between five to 15 per cent.
Talking to reporters, Mr Sinho said the commission has already visited five states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana and Maharashtra and are now going to Goa for doing a thorough study on this issue.
He said Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has demanded 15 per cent reservation for the EBC. However, he clarified that the reservation for EBC will come into existence without disturbing the existing caste based reservations for SC/ST and others.
The other members of the commission are Mr Narendra Kumar, Mahindra Singh, Dr P N Ram, Leeladhar Dorlikar and K L Chawala.
After the study the commission will submit its recommendations regarding the parameters of the reservations for EBC.
