Regional offices of RNI to be opened at Guwahati and Bhopal
New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) The government today said it would set up two regional offices of the Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI) at Guwahati and Bhopal in line with the existing regional offices at Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Information and Broadcasting Minister P. R. Dasmunsi said the proposed regional offices at Guwahati and Bhopal would become operational in 2007-08 and 2008-09 respectively.
Mr Dasmunsi said these offices would coordinate between RNI headquarters in New Delhi and publishers of the region on the matters relating to registration and title.
To cater to the needs of Maharashtra, a Regional Office of RNI is already functioning at Mumbai, the minister informed the Upper House.
