Seriously ill patient air lifted from Kargil to Srinagar by IAF

Srinagar, Feb 25 (UNI) The Indian Air Force timely airlifted a seriously ill patient from cut off Kargil in Ladakh region to Srinagar, a Defence Ministry spokesman said.

He said a message was received from authorities that one Ashan Ali was serioulsy ill at Kargil and needs specialised treatment in the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIM) at Soura.

He said Air-Force MI-17 helicopter was immediately pressed into service to airlift the patient.

The helicopter took off from Udhampur and brought the patient alongwith his family to Air field here from where he was taken to SKIMS.

Kargil remained cut off from Srinagar since November last year after the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh highway was closed for traffic for six winter months due to heavy snowfall and slippery road conditions.
