AP Council adjourned twice over Ambedkar issue
Hyderabad, Feb 25 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Chairman A Chakrapani today adjourned the house twice, when opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) stalled proceedings, demanding that the government take action against Congress MP U Arunkumar for making 'objectionable remarks' against Dr B R Ambedkar.
Immediately after the discussion on aided teachers' recruitment, TDP MLCs, waving placards, staged a sit-in in front of the Chair, demanding suspension of the MP.
When repeated appeals to the TDP members for normalcy fell on deaf ears, Mr Chakrapani adjourned the house for 15 minutes.
When the house resumed its proceedings, TDP members raised slogans against Mr Arunkumar and demanded discussion on the issue.
While terming the alleged statements against Dr Ambedkar as 'unfortunate', Mala Mahanadu leader J Prabhakar Rao said the TDP had no right to raise the issue as it had created differences between SC communities during its regime. Agitated over this, TDP leaders raised their voice and stalled the proceedings.
Later, the Chairman adjourned the house for half an hour.
