Cong MP's remark on Ambedkar triggers furore among SCs

Hyderabad, Feb 24 (UNI) Several Scheduled Caste (SC) organisations today staged demonstrations and burnt the effigy of Congress MP U Arun Kumar in various parts of Andhra Pradesh to protest his alleged objectionable remarks on Dr B R Ambedkar.

The SC organisations demanded Mr Kumar's resignation from Lok Sabha and an apology for making statements against the architect of Indian Constitution.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Major Industries Minister J Geeta Reddy said ''I don't think Mr Arun made any remarks against Dr Ambedkar.

He should apologise if he has made any statements.'' State Mala Mahandu President and MLC J Prabhakar Rao demanded Mr Kumar tender an unconditional apology.

He said the government should book cases against the Congress leader under the SC and ST Atrocities Act if he failed to apologise.
