Veteran photo journalist Narayan Thiagarajan passes away
New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Eminent photo journalist Narayan Thiagarajan today passed away following a heart attack, at a private hospital here, family sources said.
He was 78.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
Thiagarajan began his career in press photgraphy in 1954 with 'The Hindu' and 'Sport' and 'Pastime' in Delhi. He specialised in sports photography. He joined 'The Hindustan Times' in 1960 and retired from the paper in 1993. In between, he had a stint with 'The Times of India' as well.
The ace lensman had several awards and recognitions to his name, including honours from the Sahitya Kala Academy, Lalit Kala Academy, UNESCO and the like. He was elected as the General Secretary of the India International Photographic Council in 1993-94.
He was elected to the Council of Members of the Lalit Kala Academy in 1994 for five years and nominated to that of the Press Council in 2002.
His cremation was attended by scores of mediapersons and press photographers among others.
