Panchayat election should be held in a day : Dasmunshi
Kolkata, Feb 23 (UNI) West Bengal Congress president and Union Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today advocated one-day Panchayat election instead of a three-day affair.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Dasmunsi said the State Election Commissioner had recently called an all-party meeting, where all the parties but the CPI(M) endorsed for holding Panchayat election in a single day.
He said a three-member PCC delegation, led by working president Pradip Bhattacharjee, would soon meet Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and the state Election Commissioner with a request for conducting the election in a day.
He alleged that mass rigging and false voting could take place if the election was held over three days.
All the district presidents had agreed to strengthen the party's base in their areas and submitted their respective district's reports, he said, adding, '' We have called an extended working committee meeting on March 1 to discuss the reports. '' '' We would observe Panchayati Raj Adhikar Diwas in all the 341 blocks of the state and later submit a memorandum to all the Block Development officers to know how Central funds are spent in their areas, '' he stated.
The Congress would also observe ''Bhoomi Raksha Shahid Diwas'' on March 14, he said.
