Bangladeshi link into loot and murder at Gold trader's house
Barrackpore, Feb 23 (UNI) Unidentified men have allegedly looted jewellery, weighing five kg, from a Gold trader's shop and killed his wife, even as police suspect involvement of Bangladeshi traders in the incident.
North 24 Parganas Superintendent of Police Supratim Sarkar and Inspector General of Police (South Bengal) Surajit Purkayastha, who visited the residence and shop of the Gold trader here today, said Bimal Das and his family, originally from Bangladesh and presently residing at Kanchrapara in the district and having an established jewellery business here, had maintained links with gold traders from Bangladesh and suspected that these traders may be involved in the crime that occurred on February 21.
Mr Purkayastha said the incident occurred early on Thursday, when the culprits after looting their Workshop Road jewellery shop, broke into Mr Das' residence to clear out any booty that they may find there.
Police were yet to make any breakthrough in the case. Until now, investigators were still clueless about the whereabouts of the robbers. However, several police teams are presently working on the case.
Questions have also been raised as to how the Bangladeshi trader could have accumulated such a large amount of booty in such a short period. Police have, meanwhile, sealed the shop to avoid tampering of evidence.
Meanwhile, the state home secretary have sought report from the district police authorities on the proceedings of the case, while ruling political party leaders demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
