AR steps up vigil in Nagaland

Kohima, Feb 23 (UNI) The Assam Rifles (AR), deployed ahead of the March 5 Assembly elections in Nagaland, has put its forces on high alert with a view to ensure unprecedented security cover for the kpeaceful conduct of the polls.

A release issued here today by the Public Relations Officer of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR-North) Major Pallab Choudhury stated that columns of AR personnel were patrolling throughout the state for familiarising thenselves of with all Assembly constituencies and polling stations.

Vantage points have been identified, sensitive areas kept under surveillance and liaisons with the civil administration carefully crafted at both macro and micro levels in the state.

He said AR troops had also commenced round-the-clock patrolling, established Motor Vehicle Check Points and starte frisking of suspected vehicles and persons.

The IGAR had made it clear that special directives be issued to both sectors under command to step up vigil with an aim to check all kinds of movements of the underground cadres.

The IGAR also warned the underground cadres to remain confined to designated camps as stringent measures would be adopted against any erring faction, the release said.

The release informed that additional Army-based infantry companies were also reaching the state and detailed plan for deployment of all the forces had been chalked out in coordination with the civil administration.
