RSP calls for greater left unity with naxals and Maoists
New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Revolutionary Socialists Party (RSP) today criticised the role of bigger partners within the Left Front in the country saying they had developed the culture of ''Party managers'' who were responsible of managing and winning the elections.
Delivering the inaugural speech at the three-day-long 18th National Conference here, Central Secretariat member Debabrata Bandyopadhyay said, in fact it was these ''managers'' who were now running the show within the Left Front which was creating problem.
He said the Left ideology was no more in place and this could be reflected by their own admission in some of their reports that the schemes, packages and benefits meant for the backward classes and minorities did not reach them due to which their conditions had not improved.
''It is time for introspection for all of us, there is no harm to have alliance with naxalities and Maoists. After all they are all working for the same objective -- the uplift of the poor,'' he said.
Senior RSP leader Kshiti Goswami said the party was opposed to the idea of Special Economic Zone(SEZ) as they led to the displacement of thousands of poor farmers and farm workers from their land. It was for the same reason the party was opposed to the Government's view of Nandigram and Singur where prime agricultural land were being acquired for the setting up of the industrial hub.
Earlier, Reception Committee Chairman Abani Roy, in his welcome address, said the party would first review its working and then it would chalk out its plan of action for the next three years over the next two days.
''We need a strong organisation,'' he said, adding, ''this conference will help us in resolving the correct ways for future course of programmes to be undertaken by our party for building such an organisation.'' ''It will also give us the opportunity to discuss the present national political scenario vis-a-vis the prevailing international situation,'' Mr Roy said.
He said the conference would help arrive at the correct decisions on the issues.
