Guwahati, Feb 22(UNI) BJP National President Rajnath Singh today expressed concern over the growth of Maoism in the North Eastern region.

Addressing a press conference here today, the BJP President said the growth of Moaism would spell doom to the already trouble torn region and demanded that the Centre take strong action.

Mr Singh has been touring the North East as a part of his campaigning in the region.

Reacting to the reports from Maoists sneaking from Bhutan, he said, it was natural that when Bhutan was taking giant steps towards democracy, the Maoists from Nepal would like to disturb the mountain nation.

He also charged the Union Government with not taking enough action against the Maoists of Nepal, who originally operated from the Indian soil.

'' Today 170 districts of India are under Maoists. These places are facing much graver threat than anything else. If they go unchallenged now , then the Union Government would find it difficult to handle,'' he said.

Expressing optimism about the BJP's performance, he said that BJP will be a part of the ruling coalition in Nagaland, a balancing force in Meghalaya and in Tripura they will open the account.

In Assam, he denied that BJP had any proposal to have any understanding with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). ''But in politics everything is possible,'' he said.
