Germany-based co to set its foot in Mumbai

Mumbai, Feb 22 (UNI) Germany-based Metro, a business-to-business wholesale company, is all set to stamp its presence in country's financial capital with a ''Cash and Carry'' distribution centre at Bhandup suburb in North East Mumbai.

A part of its Asia expansion plan, the centre, coming up in an area of one lakh square feet, will become functional from this month, Metro Cash and Carry India spokesperson Manish Bhargava said here today.

In addition to this, the Company is setting up a similar centre in Kolkata, which will commence operation within this year, he added.

Metro Cash and Carry forayed into the Indian market in 2003 with two distribution centres at Bangalore. Later, it set up another centre at Hyderabad.

The distribution centre offers assortment of over 18,000 articles across food and non-food at the best wholesale prices to business customers such as hotels, restaurants, caterers, food and non-food traders, institutional buyers and professionals.

At present, the Company has 600 such centres in 29 countries.
