Delhi EC asked to produce papers pertaining to MCD elections

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Additional District Judge Kamini Lau today directed the Delhi Election Commission to produce before it the entire record pertaining to the casting of votes and papers related to the MCD elections held last year.

The court gave the order while hearing an election petition filed by Jamil Ahmed, who had challenged the election of Jai Kishan Das from Zafarpur constituency, alleging that in some of the polling booths almost 100 per cnet votes have been cast and the people who are dead the votes have been cast in their names also.

On these grounds, the court said the valid papers are needed for the examination of the issues before it whether these irregularities could have affected the final outcome of the elections.

The court also said it is aware of the sanctity of the secrecy of the ballot paper.

The court fixed March 3 as the next date of hearing.
