Congress will support sugarcane farmers: Siddaramaiah
Mysore, Feb 22 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today said his party would extent full support to the sugarcane growing farmers in their fight for hike in Minimum Support Price (MSP) by Rs 200 per tonne. Speaking to newspersons here, he said the farmers demand was justified. Congress had already submitted a memorandum supporting the demand for hike to Governor Rameshwar Thakur.
Referring to BJP's demand for early mid-term election to the state Legislative Assembly, he said the BJP was afraid of not winning the election if the elections were held after May.
''Even the Congress also desired early polls but only after the delimitation of the Assembly constituencies were completed. It was ready to face elections any time. However, the Election Commission would decide on the dates for the polls'', he remarked.
Alleging that there was a dearth of candidates for BJP in 100 Assembly constituencies, Mr Siddaramaiah predicted that BJP would not cross 50 seats in the elections.
''There is no sympathy on BJP as they claimed'', he added.
