Churches involved in Nagaland polls
Kohima Feb 22: The Election Commission of India, for the first time, has given authority to the churches of Nagaland to provide identity of the voters.
Chief Electoral Officer C J Ponraj said here today that the step was taken for the non-completion of the voters' identity cards as only 43 per cent electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) could be provided to 12,99,888 people.
He informed that the churches would provide the identity of the voters in their respective document and be accepted by the polling officials.
The documents of village council, including village heads, chairman council members and village education committee chairman, would help in identifying the genuine voters by setting up booth-level assistance cell outside the polling stations.
The state will go for Assembly polls on March five.
