Cancellation of Exam centres rocks House
Bhubaneswar,Feb 22 (UNI) Cancellation of examination centres in several Plus two colleges following mass copying rocked the Orissa Assembly today with members, cutting across party lines, urging Speaker Maheswar Mohanty to direct the government to reconsider the decision.
The members said the Plus two council had cancelled a large number of examination centres after its observers found the students copying in those colleges.
The members said instead of cancelling the examination centre, the authorities should take action against the concerned students, the centre superintendent and the invigilators.
Hundreds of students and their parents should not be punished for the fault of a few, they argued.
They also demanded that the Speaker direct the government to hold examination in their respective colleages and if needed engage invigilators from outside.
Mr K K Mohanty (BJD) and Mr Narasingh Sahu (Cong) said the observers cancelled the centre after the centre Superintendent did not concede to their demand and gave them the money they demanded.
Mr Pradeep Maharathy (BJD), Mr R R Baliar Singh (Ind), Mr Mahes Sahu (BJP), Mr Umesh Swain (Cong), Mr Nagendra Pradhan(BJD), Mr Jaydev Jena(Cong) among others raised the issue.
After listening to the members the Speaker ruled that the students should be given an opprtunity to take up the exam in their colleges where there was no allegation of copying for consecutive years.
He directed the government to take a decision on the issue and announce in the House tomorrow.
