2 women die, 5 injured, 6 houses gutted, animals burnt in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 22 (UNI) Two women were killed, five others injured while six houses and other structures gutted in separate incidents in the Kashmir valley overnight, official source said today.

A woman Mehbooba drowned in river Jhelum at Warpora Shopian in south Kashmir and efforts were on to fish out her body, sources said.

In another incident, a 32-year-old Mehmooda Akhtar was killed on the spot and three others were injured when a tree fell on them at Balpora Shopian. The injured were hospitalised, sources added.

Meanwhile, a girl was injured when she was hit by a vehicle at Ashia Bagh under police station Nigeen and was admitted to hospital.

In yet another incident, a fire broke out at village Qazipora Watapora, damaging four houses. However, the cause of the fire was not known, sources said.

Sources said two cows and some other animals were also burnt alive after a cowshed caught fire at Ladoona, Baramulla.

A hunter Khazir Mohd Sheikh was also injured when he opened fire with a 12-bore rifle on some beast entering his house at Sheikhpora in the central Kashmir district of Badgam. The beast, however, escaped while Mohd Sheikh sustained injury in his hand and has been admitted in Bones and Joints Hospital here.
