SP protests for restoration of student union poll
Lucknow, Feb 21 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Police today used mild force to control youth of Samajwadi Party (SP) marching towards the Vidhan Sabha demanding immediate restoration of students union elections and withdrawal of fake cases against the students.
The police used water cannon and tear gas to prevent the youth from going to the Vidhan Sabha near Loreto roundabout. A few SP activists received minor injuries in the incident.
More than 100 SP activists were taken into custody for violating section 144.
SSP Lucknow Akhil Kumar said no force was used against the demonstrators, but they were prevented to march towards the Vidhan Sabha.
The demonstration was led by SP youth wing president and MP Akhilesh Yadav.
Mr Yadav said the government should immediately restore the students' union poll and withdraw all the fake cases, lodged against the students particularly affliated with the SP.
