Lankan Navy open fire in the air to warn Indian fishermen
Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Feb 21 (UNI) The Sri Lankan Navy fired several rounds in the air to warn the Indian fishermen not to trespass into Lankan territorial waters near Katchatheevu Island, early today.
According to local fishermen who returned to the shore today, a group of 225 mechanised fishing boats were fishing near Katchatheevu Islands in the early hours of today.
A Sri Lankan Naval Patrol Vessel, which had arrived in the area, opened fire in the air as a warning to the Indian fishermen not to venture into its waters.However, no one was injured.
The Indian fishing boats hurriedly left the area after the incident and returned to the Rameswaram shore safely this morning.
