ESG to organise weekend film screenings from Feb 29

Panaji, Feb 21 (UNI) The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) will organise Weekend film screenings and discussion of critically acclaimed award winning Hindi cinema for cinefiles, fans, students, film industry professionals and citizens of Goa, from February 29 to March 2, at the Maquinez palace.

Speaking to reporters, the ESG General Manager Nikhil Desai said the event initiated as part of the year round activity calender, aims to promote a qualitative film culture and encourage a good cinema movement in the state, providing an opportunity for film fans to view the best of National and International films.

Mr Dessai said, ''ESG will be selective in choosing films and will screen four films that have won awards at the film festivals.

This is meant to encourage a creative dialogue, give an opportunity for people to see good films, and showcase cinema as an art form.

These steps will serve the cultural objective of making available the best of cinema of the world to the public at large.'' Providing a visual treat at the weekend screenings will be ''Frozen'', directed by Shivajee Chandrabhushan, ''Manorama Six Feet Under'', directed by Navdeep Singh, ''1971'' Directed by Amrit Sagar and ''Anuranan'' directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury.

The opening of the weekend screening will be on February 29 at 1700 hours and screeenings on March 1 and 2 will begin at 1430 hours and 1715 hours, respectively and will be followed by a panel of discussions, chaired by eminent experts and resource persons of the field.

Meanwhile, ESG will begin registration from February 22 onwards on a first-come-first-serve basis for a maximum of 200 participants only and a registration fee of about Rs 50 per participant, above 18 years of age, will be collected.
