AAPSU calls statewide bandh on Feb 29
Itanagar, Feb 21 (UNI) The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has threatened to call another bandh on February 29 if the government fails to rescue the youths, allegedly kidnapped by banned NSCN(K) from Tirap recently.
Altogether 39 youths, mostly students, were kidnapped by the outfit during January as a part of its recruitment drive of which 29 were released upon negotiations. However, ten are yet to be released.
The apex students' body had called a 12-hour state bandh yesterday as its first phase of agitation after the ten-day ultimatum served to the state government to rescue the students ended on Saturday last.
Meanwhile, The West Kameng district police also opened fire in the air to disperse a group of agitators at Bomdila as they tried to disturb the Statehood celebrations yesterday.
Addressing a press conference later in the evening AAPSU president Kanu Bagang claimed that the bandh was total and sucessful and thanked the people for their support.
