Naxalites call bandh in Malkangiri

Bhubaneswar, Feb 20 (UNI) The 24-hour bandh, called by Naxalites in Malkangiri district to protest the killing of one of their cadres by the Andhra Pradesh police, paralysed the movement of traffic in most parts of the district today.

Malkangiri district Superintendent of Police S K Gajbhiye told UNI over phone the Naxals gave the bandh call to protest the killing of one Sudhir by the Andhra Pradesh police on February 14 last.

Sudhir, a notorious criminal, had created a terror in Koraput, Malkangiri, Bisam Cuttack and some adjoining areas in Andhra Pradesh.

The SP said traffic was totally paralysed in the western and southern side and also on the Kalimela-motu road in response to the bandh call.

School, colleges and shops were closed in the interior areas of the district.

However, the markets and educational institutions remained open in Malkangiri town and the vehicles were seen plying on the Malkangiri- Jeypore road.
