DEC arrives in Tripura to review final preparations for elections
Agartala, Feb 19 (UNI) Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) of the Election Commission of India (ECI) Raju Balakrishnan arrived here this morning to review the last phase of the election preparations in Tripura.
The DEC is also scheduled to hold meetings with all the district security officials, along with the commanding officers of Central Paramilitary Forces (CMPF), ahead of the polls on February 23.
State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr G S G Ayyangar informed that Mr Balakrishnan would brief the company commanders of the CMPF about their responsibilities on the polling day and election management tips during his two-day visit.
To ensure free, fair and transparent elections, the Union Home Ministry has already sent 200 CMPF companies, who would be deployed exclusively for election purposes, along with the state security forces of about 24,000 personnel.
As per ECI guidelines, the state authorities deployed the CMPF, comprising ITBP, CRPF and BSF, in and around all the urban and semi-urban pockets as part of confidence building measures, Dr Ayyangar added.
