BSP demands withdrawal of hike in stamp duty

Bangalore, Feb 19 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national general secretary P G R Sindhia today urged Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur to withdraw the proposed hike in stamp duty from March 1.

In a press release here, he said the decision to hike stamp duty by 20 per cent would be a burden on the people belonging to poor and middle classes and in some areas the stamp duty would be more than the market price.

The former Karnataka minister alleged that the hike would not bring any additional revenue to the state Treasury since there was all possibility of fixing a low price for the properties. Moreover, the increase would also lead to more corruption, he said.
