Youth murder sparks tension in TN

Rameswaram, Feb 19 (UNI) A 24-year-old youth was brutally murdered by an unidentified armed gang near Dhanushkodi here this evening.

Police sources said the deceased N Karuppaiah, a close relative of a wealthy businessman, was waylaid by the gang, when he was riding his motorcycle at a deserted location. The gang attacked him with sickles in which Karuppaiah died on the spot. After staging the cold-blooded murder, the gang threw the body of Karuppaiah into a horny bush and managed to escape from the spot.

Police rushed to the spot and removed the body to the Government Hospital, here for post-mortem. There was an enmity between Karuppaiah and another gang and police suspect the gang might have been involved in the murder. Police launched a massive hunt to nab the criminals behind the murder.

Tension gripped several parts of Rameswaram after the murder.

Police pickets had been posted in the sensitive areas to prevent any backlash.
