New Delhi, Feb 18 (UNI) Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjeev Jain today sent Dr Jeevan Rawat, brother of main accused in kidney scam case Dr Amit Kumar, to CBI custody till February 29.
Dr Jeevan was produced before the court by the CBI, after he was arrested from Lodi Garden area yesterday. CBI said earlier a warrant had been issued against him by a Gurgaon court and he was evading arrest since then. CBI also submitted before the court that he is to be confronted with other accused arrested so far and also to ascertain the names of other doctors involved in the kidney scam.
The court asked the CBI to produce him before the concerned court for hearing the matter on February 29.
Kidney scam mastermind Dr Amit Kumar was apprehended from Nepal and one of his associates Dr Saraj surrendered before a city court last week. Dr Jeevan was the only one at large.
The Interpol had also issued a red corner notice against Dr Jeevan. Already declared an international offender, Dr Jeevan had been absconding ever since police busted their illegal kidney trade on the outskirts of Delhi.
The Gurgaon cops had also arrested Jeevan's wife, Pooja Singhal on Wednesday. She is facing charges of criminal conspiracy in view of her confession of being actively involved in the Kidney transplant business, collecting payments from clients and giving post-operative care to patients.
