TN Govt to establish Muslim Women Aid Society

Karur, Feb 17: The Tamil Nadu Government has decided to establish a Muslim Women Aid Society in this district, for their uplift, according to the Commissioner of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities P Annamalai.

Talking to newspersons here yesterday, he said the Government would grant Rs one lakh for the society, chaired by the District Collector. The society would be based at Pallapatti, where a large number of Muslims reside, and locals would form the chunk of the society, he added.

Mr Annamalai said through the Tamil Nadu Minorities Corporation, a sum of Rs 75 lakh had been allotted to the district for assistance to the minority communities economic development. A sum of Rs 42 lakh was disbursed so far, he added.

He said the district was sanctioned Rs one crore, for financial assistance to the backward classes through the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes Economic Development Corporation.

While Rs ten lakh had been disbursed to 84 identified beneficiaries, another Rs seven lakh would be disbursed to 32 people, he added.
