Senior Congress leader Shankarrao Barhate passes away
Ahmednagar, Feb 17 (UNI) Veteran freedom fighter and senior Congress leader Jagannath Shankarrao Barhate passed away in Punatamba village of Kopargaon tehsil of the district today. He was 97.
Barhate died due to old age and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Barhate had participated in the ''Salt Satyagraha'' under the leadership of freedom fighter Sahajanand Bharati and was in the prison for two years during the struggle.
He was the first MLA of the Kopargaon tehsil, the first Sarpanch of Punatamba village and a famous agriculturist.
His funeral was held at Punatamba village here.
