MDMK breakaway faction to 'save' party from Vaiko

Karur, Feb 17: The Tamil Nadu Executive Committee of the Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) breakaway faction had claim that its leaders would take steps to save the party from the clutches of MDMK founder Vaiko, who allegedly, was manipulating the forum, to suit his whims and fancies.

Talking to newspersons on the resolutions adopted at the executive committee meeting here yesterday, Party's Presidium Chairman L Ganesan and General Secretary Gingee N Ramachandran alleged Mr Vaiko has lost sight of the principles, for which the party was founded. Instead, he was, hobnobbing with ''communal'' AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, they alleged.

They alleged that Mr Vaiko was not taking action independently and it looks, as if, he has merged the party with the AIADMK.

Despite his unpredictable steps, some people believed that he would deliver the goods, but the breakaway faction would dispel the myth, they added.

They claimed that they would strengthen the secular alliance led by the DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, since the ''communal elements'' were obstructing him from implementing the Sethusamudram Shipping Channel Project(SSCP). ''Some people are invoking the name of Lord Rama only to gain political mileage,'' they added.

They said the party was contemplating for a merger with the DMK in due course.

Party's State Organising Secretary M Kannadasan said such political decisions would be taken at the right time and at the appropriate forum.
