Fire in HEG factory, no casualties

Raisen, MP, Feb 16: A fire broke out in a factory in Mandideep industrial area here. However no casualties were reported.

A crane, carrying more than 12 labourers, in the HEG factory's electrode graphite section caught fire yesterday. The labourers saved themselves but the crane was gutted, Sub-Divisional Officer Vikas Mishra said.

Fire tenders were pressed into service. Explosive material carbon powder was prevented from catching fire averting a major accident.

Fire fighters did not use much water to control the flames due to the presence of chemicals in the factory. A special caustic soda-fitted fire tender was called from the state capital to control the fire.

Mr Mishra said he would submit his report in this regard to the district administration.
