Doctor beaten up by relatives of patient in Andaman

Port Blair, Feb 17 (UNI) A doctor at the Andaman Government G B Pant Hospital was beaten up and the hospital's property damaged by relatives of a patient, who died at the medical centre this morning.

Following the incident, Dr B G Lall, a specialist doctor, sustained injuries mostly on the head and chest.

Meanwhile, the doctors and staff at the hospital expressed serious concern and lodged their protest against the incident.

Trouble erupted in the hospital after a 21-year-old physically challenged patient, who was admitted to the institute last night after an accident, succumbed to his injuries.

Angry relatives alleged that the death of the man, who suffered serious head injuries, was due to negligence on the part of the doctor.

''We are looking into this matter and will take action once we get a formal complaint from the doctors,'' Deputy Superintendent of Police of South Andaman N.Rasheed told UNI.
