Candidates defy model code of conduct in Tripura
Agartala, Feb 17 (UNI) Political aspirants in the election-bound Tripura have invited trouble by defying the model code of conduct.
In the last two days, three separate cases were registered against candidates belonging to three major national parties.
Indian National Congress candidate Brajendra Mog Chowdhury from 39 Julaibari constituency in south district was campaigning yesterday with 16 vehicles at Julaibari in violation of the model code of conduct.
While police seized two vehicles, it said Mr Mog Chowdhury will be prosecuted under section of 188 the Indian Penal Code.
On Monday last Returning Officer(ARO) of Birganj constituency of the same district filed compaints against various party leaders after it was found that the activists of the CPI(M), Congress and BJP had paste their party flags on Bankarai School.
They also festooned Birganja panchayat office and also private properties without obtaining any written/verbal permission.
The complaints were filed against Jahar Saha, Monoranjan Acharjee and Haradhan Saha, candidates of Congress, CPI(M) and BJP respectively.
Mr Saha and Mr Acharjee have for the first time faced such a complaint for violating the model code of conduct.
Assembly election in Tripura is scheduled for February 23.
