Breast cancer pushed Sheryl Crow into adopting her first child

Washington, Feb 17 : American singer Sheryl Crow has revealed that she made up her mind to adopt her first child after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Crow had found out that she was suffering from the illness in 2005, just weeks after she split from her fiance, cancer-surviving cyclist Lance Armstrong.

She said that the illness made her rethink her life.

The singer admitted that she had always thought a family comprised of a father and a mother, but when she got news of her illness, the urge to start a family grew stronger, despite not having a man in her life.

"I began the adoption process right after I finished my treatment. Wyatt (her son) came in May last year. I have always felt like I was meant to be a mum, but I had kept it from happening because I had believed that you are supposed to look for a family with a mum and a dad," Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

"When my relationship fell apart just before I was diagnosed with cancer, I said, 'Right I'm going to rethink this'," she added.
