Left parties protest fuel price hike, call the move anti-people

New Delhi, Feb 16 (UNI) The Left parties today expressed their anger and anxiety over the recent hike in fuel prices, saying the move would give rise to inflation and hurt the already burdened common man.

The activists of CPI(M), CPI and RSP led by CPI(M) MP Nilotpal Basu, CPI national council member Dinesh Varshney and RSP (Delhi) secretary Asit Ganguli, demonstrated at Parliament Street denouncing the government move.

Terming the move as ''administered'', speakers at the protest rally said the step would add to the miseries of the poor people who were suffering from the unprecedented rise in prices of essential commodities.

Asking the government to reduce fuel prices by cutting down various levies on them, the protestors said the fact that the government was not willing to consider any such measure was proof of its anti-people approach.

Warning the government against such drastic steps, the speakers said it had not learnt anything from the drubbing the Congress received at the recent elections in Punjab, Himachal and Uttarakhand.
