Special protection team arrives in Tripura

Agartala, Feb 15: A special protection team of home ministry arrived here today to review the security situation on the eve of scheduled Tripura visit of Prime Minister Monmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Official sources here today said the ministry officials had brought six bullet proof vehicles along with them and held meeting with Director General of Police K T D Singh and other senior security officials of the state.

According to report, with the intelligence inputs of the movement of separatist outfits in the state, home ministry has not yet given clearance to the proposed road show of Rahul Gandhi while asked the state security officials to take necessary steps to ensure safe movement of Mrs Gandhi and Mr Singh on February 18 and 19.

The home ministry officials have also held meetings with Tripura Congress leaders and finalised the schedules and discussed the ministry's instruction regarding management of rallies and movement of the party workers, sources added.
