Dt judge asked to inquire into gangrape at jail
Chennai, Feb 15 (UNI) The Madras High Court today directed the Principal District Judge, Vellore, to inquire into the allegation by a convict that his wife was gangraped by jail officials in November last year.
Admitting a writ petition filed by convict Ganesan, a Division Bench comprising Mr Justice P D Dinakaran and Mr Justice R Regupathi directed the Principal District Judge to personally visit the jail and record a statement from the petitioner, lodged in the prison, and forward the same to the registry.
The Bench also directed the Additional Director General of Police (prisons), to visit the prison, conduct a probe and submit a detailed preliminary report before the Court by February 18 and adjourned further hearing in the case to that date.
In his petition, Ganesan submitted that his wife Nadhiya (25) was gang raped by Deputy Jailor Tamilselvan, Wardens Mahendra Varman, Balamurugan and Murthy, when she came to prison to meet him on November 13 last year.
Since then his wife was reported missing and did not know about her whereabouts, he submitted and prayed for issuance of a writ of Habeas Corpus and direction to the police to produce his wife in the court.
