Couple accuses AIIMS staff of swapping babies

New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) A couple has alleged that the staff at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) swapped their newborn son with a girl.

Mr Ayush Gupta and his wife Premalata, in their complaint filed at the AIIMS police post, alleged that they were first told after cesarean delivery on yesterday morning that they have a male child, but later the staff handed them a girl.

In the complaint, Mr Gupta said Premalata was moved into the labour room around midnight and she delivered a baby at 0305 hrs after which the family was told by a doctor that she had delivered a boy.

AIIMS spokesperson Dr Shakti K Gupta dismissed the allegations, saying swapping of babies was not possible.

''To establish the paternity issue we have established already taken samples for DNA test. That will conclusively settle the matter,'' he added.
