Fuel hike: Assembly adjourned as opposition protests

Hyderabad, Feb 15: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned for a brief period today as opposition parties stalled the proceedings over the hike in the price of petroleum products by the Centre.

The trouble started as soon as the House assembled for the day, when Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed the adjournment motions given notice of by the main opposition TDP, CPI, CPI(M) and AIMIM on the issue.

Angry opposition party members rushed to the Speakers podium demanding setting aside of the regular business and allowing an immediate discussion on the hike, which would hit hard the commonman.

The opposition members raised slogans demanding withdrawal of the hike.

The TRS members were also on their feet when the Speaker disallowed the adjournment motion given notice of by the party demanding a resolution for the creation of separate Telangana State.

After repeated appeals to the agitated members to resume their seats fell on deaf ears, the Speaker announced adjournment of the House for over 15 minutes.

Earlier, the Speaker also disallowed the adjournment motion given notice of by Janata party member K Ramulu on improvement of education facilities in his home constituency of Metpally.
