CARI to organise Kisan Mela in Andaman

Port Blair, Feb 14 (UNI) With a view to assisting the peasants in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to earn their livelihood through agro-based micro-enterprises, the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI) will organise a 'Kisan Mela' in the remote archipelago.

Official sources said here today that the Mela, which will be inaugurated by Chief of the Car Nicobar Tribal Council Aberdeen Blair on February 16, will provide a glimpse of technologies to be undertaken by the target group in a micro-enterprise mode.

The major attractions of the exhibition included broad bed furrow system, pig farming, quail farming, integrated farming system, flower cultivation, protected cultivation, integrated pest management, mushroom cultivation, morinda cultivation, ornamental fish production, goat farming, dairy, turkey rearing, mud crab culture, prawn culture, fresh and brackish water fish production, farm machineries and several others in agricultural and allied fields for the benefit of the farmers, youth and extension personnel of the islands.
