Bangladeshi intelligence jawan held in SDinajpur

Balurghat, Feb 13: A jawan of the Bangladeshi Intelligence Branch, also known as the Rapid Action Force, was beaten up by villagers when he entered Hili Dakhinpara in this border district of South Dinajpur today.

BSF DIG Pravat Singh Tomar, who rushed to the spot after getting information, said the injured jawan, 48-year-old Jainal Abedin, was taken to the Hili Rural Hospital and given stitches. From there he was taken to the Border Security Force camp for interrogation.

''Intelligence Branch men cannot enter within 0-5 KM area of the international border,'' the DIG said.

Abedin reportedly said during interrogation that he had information about heroin being taken in a train and had come to the spot to investigate but was attacked by Indian villagers.

A Chinese revolver and 13 rounds of ammunition were recovered from him.
